Ursus arctos horribilis
This was the 2nd bear raised on Grouse mountain after being orphaned when very young. They have a beautiful natural wooded enclosure with 2 water holes and a lot of natural bush.
This bear and the one in the previous spotting were orphaned bears that were rescued from being euthanized when small, as was government policy, it seems. The ranger said they could not be released into the wild because they had not developed survival skills, but they are trying to get permission to adopt more orphan bears and raise them to be released into the wild.
