This bird appeared perched on a dead tree limb about 50 yards across a canal from my back yard in western Boca Raton, FL. The claws, shown in closeup in one of the photos, look like they could do some serious damage. They are mostly fish-eaters.
An abandoned golf course along an inland canal
It never came any closer to my house so the photos were taken at long range.
