Sugar Maple

Acer saccharum

Description:

Sugar Maple buds are oval and between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch in length. Tree sap is the source of maple syrup. The sap runs are at the end of winter when the nights are chilly and the days are warm and sunny and before the buds develop into leaves. These plump buds are the only ones I found on one branch of the tree.
