Red Shouldered Hawk

Beauteo lineatus

Description:

I find these birds of prey to be amazing. I often sit and watch them hunt. I learnt a valuable lesson from a lady once. She was telling me that when people throw food out of there car windows onto the road or near a road, That these beautiful birds will often come down to get the food, But end up getting hit by cars. I used to throw food out "thinking" that I was helping animals that may be starving. After she told me that, I stopped doing this. Now whenever I see one of these birds dead in the road, I always think about what she told me.

You are right. I would like to add that if you choose to do so, Then please wear protective gloves. You can get all kinds of unwanted things from touching dead animals.

Beautiful Portrait! We can also help drag dead animals off the road so vultures and others can eat them without being hit.
