Diablo Range Gartersnake

Thamnophis atratus zaxanthus

Description:

There are mainly two types of Gartersnakes, Aquatic and Terrestrial. As you can see this one is diffinitively Aquatic. This maybe a young one as adult could be 18 to 24 inches in length. It seemed pretty small. They mainly feed on amphibian larvae, Sierran Treefrogs, small fish and leeches.

Habitat:

Mostly found near or in ponds
