Description:

Small (1/4 inch in length)) fly with clear white to brown body. Legs, wing veins and eyes are brown.

Habitat:

Found sitting upon an aluminum railing adjacent to Atlantic Ocean beach area. Heavy salt spray.

Great eyes! This looks like a species of Horse Fly. I think there is a good chance that it is from Genus Tabanus. However, many of the species in that genus are so similar that they can't be distinguished by photos.

In a brief scan, I wasn't able to find any matches but this might be an abnormally colored individual.
