Wolf Spider

Lycosidae

Description:

- Very hairy - Approximately 30 mm in body length (relatively large for a spider) - Patterned with black, gray, and brown hues - Extremely quick and agile - 8 legs

Habitat:

I found this one in my garage one night, but that isn`t its habitat, of course. They are particularly popular in prairie regions, but can be found in a variety of habitats. They are usually found in open areas such as grasslands, farm fields, or meadows where they can find insects to consume. Most of them stay low on the ground, but few like to climb up trees or other elevated objects when hunting.

Notes:

These spiders posses great eyesight and can hunt their prey during the day or during the night. They can also cover about 2 feet per second, which is very fast considering their size. Although their keen eyesight is an advantage for them, they only have a lifespan of about 18 months.
