Hi Albert. I should have said unique for me then. I have seen numerous praying mantis and not yet seen one display like this but then I don't try to hold them either. Thanks for explaining.
No, @Maria. Many species of Praying Mantis shows this defensive posture if you try to hold them. Some will display the wings briefly but others may hold it for longer, giving you the opportunity to take pics of them in their defensive posture. Some other insects like Katydid do this too.
