Ghost Crab

Ocypode ceratopthalma

Notes:

The Ghost crab Ocypode ceratophthalma has a cream coloured shell with brown markings on top. Its nippers are invariably unequal in size. Ghost crabs are nocturnal, emerging at night to forage along the beach for dead animals, although they sometimes attack smaller crabs, or even baby turtles. They are extremely fast movers when disturbed, running quickly sideways either into the water or their burrows - whichever is closest. Size: 7cm
