Chinese Fire Belly Toad

Bomina Orientalis

Description:

So a friend gave me these eggs not knowing what they were and it turns out they were Fire Belly Toads, so I raised them. Sadly the first tadpole ate the remaining eggs all in one night so it was nice and fat, but then I only had one to raise. This might need to be classified as a pet I guess.

It is quite common for tadpoles to eat other tadpoles. They eat pretty much whatever they can fit into their mouths so when they metamorphose they will be larger and have a better chance at survival.

Great photos very rarely do people breed these so fun to see! I heard they must be fed something special to acquire the colored belly in captivity, but I have no idea what it is.

Ya, it sucked, but it's all part of the learning experience.

I love this! I've raised Spring Peepers :) Too bad the first tadpole ate the other eggs... I've never heard of that happening
