Siamese crocodile

Crocodylus siamensis

Description:

A relatively small crocodile.

Habitat:

Shallow lake, specific location withheld due to being classified as critically endangered by the IUCN.

Notes:

After a 5km trek through thick jungle, we reached our destination without any great expectation of seeing any crocodiles. However, whilst taking a breather before the hike back to the lodge, I spotted movement in the water and then we caught a brief glimpse of one of the rarest reptiles in Southeast Asia. It made the walk back much more enjoyable!
