Thanks JSNAKER! It was a very large snake this one, biggest I've seen for many years.
Very awesome pics kd!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks StephenS. Noisy Miners are very active at present, & I mentioned to Neil that they hate everyone & everything, so possibly them! The little birds seem to have no fear.
Noisy Miners hate snakes and are sometimes called snake birds, might have been the culprits. Nice spotting!
Thanks MacC & medusasnakes123 for comments. Snakes are incredible - this one moved so fast across the grass with such ease & appeared to be on smooth ice - no sideways movement. Seen in the right light the iridescence on the scales is quite beautiful.
I LOVE SNAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Nice spotting KD
Whip Snake in name and nature KathleenMc! One flung itself out from bushes surrounding a pool I was in as it was chasing a small frog which had just flung itself into my face! No chance of a photo then! Amazing how the sight of a snake allows most only to be able to yell 'snake', & so miss a photo opportunity. I do the same as seeing one is so exciting & intimidating at the same time.
Agree that snake sightings are so fleeting! A White-lipped Whip Snake zipped across the path in front of me when we were hiking in Tassie and I had my camera right in my hand and just said "Snake!" and didn't take a picture. Annoying!
Thanks Kathleen & folicallychalled for comments. Yes a longer lens would come in very handy at times! I was pleased to get a photo as I usually miss the snakes mostly because it is at first a shock to come across them, secondly the sighting is usually so fleeting.
Brave indeed - you need a longer lens :)
I thought I had an Eastern brown here in Indonesia, as I read that there are some that have made the journey. Turned out it was a rat snake. But, when you don't know for sure, it is quite a buzz getting those snaps.

Incredible spotting!
Thanks for comments beaker98, Tom15, LeanneG, rams4d, Leuba, Neil. Brave or Mad - take your pick! It did have its eye on me several times & threatened to strike as can be seen in this pose - & I was not that close - hate to think what would have happened if I'd been closer. It was by chance I saw it as I had heard small birds calling & took the camera outside to get some shots, they had disappeared & I hadn't seen the snake right in front of me until willy-wagtail flew past my shoulder & attacked it alerting me to its presence (another great bush ally). I was a step away from an aggressive Tiger Snake a few months back - not quick enough to get a photo, but avoided the strike. They are beautiful to watch but deadly, & if in the mood will strike many times not just once. I've grown up with them but they still unnerve you. They WILL chase you Neil - I believe you as I have experienced the same many times, once by a 7 footer in the Blue Mountains. Having been bitten by a Red-belly (not as venomous) I am not keen for a repeat.
Nice kd! I can't even imagine a 7 foot snake. I rarely see anything over 2:)
Nice pics! Looks like he has his eye on you.
Wow! You are so brave kd. I'd have run a mile! Congrats on these great pics & such an exciting spotting.
Nice picture
Very brave, indeed ! Nice spotting, though. I would love to see one in the wild...but from miles away !!
Neil, as for being chased by one - I believe you and so glad you didn't trip on anything. Gives me the shivers !!
Great photo. I was chased once by a Brown Snake. I reckon I broke the land speed record that day... but no one believes me.
Extra photo added.
