Description:

Flat, black beetle with a pinkish-orange margin on the protonum. Larvae feed on carrion. Adults sometimes feed on fly larvae. Found at a raccoon carcass.

Habitat:

Temperate forest bordering the James River. Pony Pasture Park, Virginia.
