Phragmites australis
Also known as the Common Reed.
Near a pond.
Highly invasive in America.
Updated the common name; thanks yet again, Dane.
Not silly at all, pronounced > frag-Mite-ease/eez and is known as the European Common Reed.
Dane, yes, I've read about how invasive phragmites plants are. This sounds silly, but how do you pronounce "phragmites"--frag-MITE-eez or FRAG-mites?
This is a VERY invasive plant. They are taking over the bull-rushes up here, and the problem is their roots create such a dense mat that nothing can dig through them to hibernate.
