Oops. This is NY for some reason I saw it as CA. It would be Eastern, You're right.

Hard to tell for sure. It is likely a Western Hemlock. Did you see any cones?

Hi Claire! I uploaded a photo of the trunk from which I think it came from. It certainly was a conifer of a somewhat small size.
