Cool find! You are correct, this is a mantis nymph from genus Stagmomantis. There are a couple of species found in your area and they are similar looking. Did you happen to get any photos of the face?
I believe S. limbata and S. carolina are found in Texas. S. limbata has a blue upper lip (one of the easier to see differences, if you get a shot of the face). Here are a couple of links that may help!
