Leaf-Footed Bug

Description:

This Leaf-footed bug (Family Coreidae) was about 4 cm long. He was missing one hind leg on his left side and a mesothoracic leg on the right side. Must have been in some trouble, but survived.

Habitat:

Tropical forest, dry season, Chorreadero Park, 10 km above Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico.

You're right, they are remarkably similar and must have some genetic connection. Your Australian species doesn't have the "leaf" development of the hind leg though.
