Marsh Rabbit

Sylivilagus palustris

Description:

Small, brown animal with upright ears , brown fur with white belly.

Habitat:

Seen at Wakadatachee Wetlands Preserve. Marsh Rabbits only live near water; Wakadatachee is an area of wetlands, marshes, treed areas and grassy areas.

Notes:

Marsh Rabbits are similar to the Eastern Cottontail Rabbit but are a bit smaller; an adult will average 2-3# in weight and up to 17" in length. The Marsh Rabbit has smaller ears, legs and tail than the Eastern Cottontail Rabbit but has larger hind feet. Marsh Rabbits are very strong swimmers.
