A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Ribes sp.

Along train in dead fern meadow surrounded by mixed Oak and evergreen forest.
Thank you for checking it out, Despina! I really appreciate your help.
I spotted a currant bush in a NZ park, about a year ago, and did a small research. Today, I noticed the same leaf (no flowers- no fruits) and I remembered the species, then googled it, and came across the following page, with general information...And then, I started googling :)

I really appreciate your help! I'm curious, what reference are you using? I've been using Calflora.org which shows 13 different species in San Diego county but when I narrow the community down to mixed evergreen forest, it shows R. californicum and R. roezlii.
I was able to find only 2 thorny ribes species in your area, the other one, was the desert gooseberry (ribes velutinum).
Thank you for the ID, Despina! That particular species doesn't seem to be found in this county but I completely agree with the genus! Thanks again :)
