Crown-Tipped Coral

Artomyces pyxidatus

Description:

Around 4 centimeters wide and 6ish centimeters tall. Very rainy couple of days leading up to the spotting. The decomposing log that housed the fungus was pretty well hidden under a bush in a spot that would not get much sunlight.

Habitat:

Growing out of a decomposing log in a forest made up of predominantly conifer and broad leaf tree's next to a river.

Notes:

So happy to finally spot this beautiful fungus. The last picture of the set shows the log the fungus was emerging from; in the bottom left of the photo one can see a small cluster of yellow. I wanted to illustrate just how tricky this can be to find if you're not looking.
