Golden-Headed Lion Tamarin (severely endangered)

Leontopithecus chrysomelas

Description:

Approximately 10". Body fur is black. Fur around face is gold/bronze. Tail is long. Very quick, fast-moving animals. Faces are beautiful. Two newborns (less than 24 hours old) are being carried by the mother; one is clinging to her back and the other to her front.

Habitat:

Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida.

Notes:

This spotting is about the Golden-Headed Tamarins and newborn babies. The babies were less than 24-hours old. One baby is on the mother's back, snuggled right up against the base of her neck, while the other baby is on her front. These small creatures are severely endangered. These photos were taken with a hybrid/bridge camera and, unfortunately, are not of the best resolution. The Tamarin's cage is double-wired and the camera could not quite "dissolve" the wire to get clear shots. If this posting is too fuzzy for perusal, please advise and I will remove it.
