Mantled Howler Monkey (juvenile)

Alouatta palliata

Description:

Large (42") and stocky, mainly black, with a yellow-brown mantle of long fur on the siders od the body. Prehensile tail. They have load, deep roars that can be heard for miles mainly at dusk/dawn but also in response to thunder or when disturbed.

Habitat:

Found in most forests and remnants in groups of 10-20, spending most of the day resting in large branches. Feeds mostly on leaves, fruit, flowers and buds.
