Flower Fly that mimics the Honey Bee

Eristalis tenax (Family Syrphidae)

Description:

This is a remarkable fly, feeding on nectar side by side with honey bees and other bees and wasps. The visual mimicry and size is extraordinarily similar to the Honey Bee. In addition, the sound of the wing beat in flight also mimics that of the Honey Bee.

Habitat:

Abandoned field full of composite flowers, semi-urban area on the outskirts of the city, 2,200 meters.
