Slime Mold, Red Raspberry

Tubifera ferruginosa

Description:

Occur as clusters of individual fruiting bodies that are less than 0.5 mm wide and are up to 3-5 mm high. Compressed clusters are red, resemble raspberries, and may be up to 15 cm or more in length. The cluster soon matures to a purplish and then brownish mass of columnar structures.

Habitat:

June through November. Decaying wood or wood debris, occasionally on forest floor leaf litter.
