Crepe Myrtle

Lagerstroemia indica

Description:

Crepe myrtle trees can grow from 15 - 25 feet high and equally as wide makes them a relatively medium-sized tree. However, some can be dwarf sized being around 6 feet tall. The tree lives in warm and humid environments with mild winters which makes it popular in southern states. Its flowers can be a multitude of colors like white, pink, purple, and red. The flowers for most will stay all the way into later fall compared to most other flowering trees. The leaves are long and narrow and dark green.

Habitat:

Originally the crape myrtle was in China, however, it eventually got to the United States. Now in the U.S., the crepe myrtle is often planted in many residential areas in the south and the one in the photo is in my front yard.
