A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Erinaceidae
We found this hedgehog in our garden, totally weak and full with ticks, maggots and infected eyes. We have well-cared-for and liberates it of the ticks and maggots, unfortunately it has nevertheless still died after some days.
Hedgehogs are primarily nocturnal, although, depending on the species, they may be more or less active during the day. The hedgehog sleeps for a large portion of the daytime either under cover of bush, grass, rock or in a hole in the ground. Again, different species can have slightly different habits, but in general hedgehogs dig dens for shelter. All wild hedgehogs can hibernate, although not all do; hibernation depends on temperature, species, and abundance of food.

so cute,, sad to know about little one,
last night we found one again, normally they are in hibernation.
This afternoon we bring him / her to the shelter where the chances of survival are greatest. Hope this one makes it !!
Cute! The pic #2 is lovely. So sad that it didn't survive.... :,,(

Many thanks! :-)
nice series!
Adorable! Brings back memories of my childhood - we used to see hedgehogs fairly regularly. Unfortunately they have become quite rare in England now.
