Fox Squirrel

Sciurus niger

Description:

The eastern fox squirrel is the largest tree squirrel. It is 10-15 inches in length. It has three distinct color patterns. In the northeastern part of its range, it is gray above with yellowish undersides. In the western part of its range, it is gray above and rust colored on its undersides. In the southern part of its range, it is black with a white stripe on its face and a white tip on its tail.

Habitat:

Wildlife habitat yard.

Notes:

I forgot to take this cushion in, and this squirrel decided it had a better use for it than I did. It made repeated trips, each time leaving with its mouth crammed full of stuffing.

It was fun to watch. A bit hard on the cushion, though.

Busy too. It undoubtably has the best lined nest in the neighborhood.
