Cocos nucifera
The coconut palm, Cocos nucifera, is a member of the family Arecaceae (palm family). It is the only accepted species in the genus Cocos.[2] The term coconut can refer to the entire coconut palm, the seed, or the fruit, which, botanically, is a drupe, not a nut. This was found in Alathur, Palakkad District, Kerala, India. (Actually it is in my backyard)
This special type of coconut tree, called Aayiramkaaychi in Palakkad, has bunches like the pepper, and not in the usual form. Aayiramkaaychi means 'producing thousand' and this name came about because the number of coconuts in a bunch may be over one hundred. There was one bunch in an exhibition in Alathur which had over two hundred coconuts in it.
