Campsomeris pilipes
Large, hairy wasp banded black and yellow as shown. Males are much more slender, with much longer antennae.
Found this one nectaring on a lone, blooming saltcedar tree (Tamarix sp.) in a vast open field of very short grasses with sparse sunflower, yucca, and widely scattered elm trees.
These wasps are parasitic on the grubs of scarab beetles.
