I wanted to find out as this dear old tree has been felled due to its trunk rotting away :(... Far too many rings to count !

No worries :) . They are very much like pine needles ..I believe it is a tree of African descent as it was a gift to the town many years ago .But that's as much as I know . Beautiful tree regardless though! :)
