Description:

Small, slender-bodied wasp that mimics harvester ants (Pogonomyrmex).

Habitat:

Found this one nectaring on a lone, blooming saltcedar (Tamarix sp.) in a vast open field of short grasses with scattered yucca, sunflower, and elm trees.

Notes:

Smallest member of the genus Ammophila in North America.
