Description:

In the final nymphal instar, cicada nymphs construct an exit tunnel to the surface of the soil and emerge. They then molt (shed their skins) on a nearby plant for the last time and emerge as adults. The abandoned exoskeleton remains, still clinging to the bark of trees. This cicada exuvia probably belonged to an Amphipsalta zelandica (NZ chorus cicada) wich is the commonest cicada species in NZ. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/164...
