Pantala hymenaea
Good-sized dragonfly with broad hind wings. Note brown spot on inner margin of hind wing.
Roosting in a tree in the heat of midday along a dry arroyo. Mostly dry, open fields in the area with cottonwood, willow, and elm trees.
Colorado Springs is at the very western edge of the range of this species in the Rocky Mountain region. May be expanding its range with global climate change?
