Buprestid beetle

Psiloptera equestris

Description:

About 3 cm long beetle; elytra finely striped. Body shiny turquoise blue, visible only when it spreads its wings. Same colour as the feet.

Habitat:

Amazon jungle, along the Kourou river.

Notes:

I saw a blue light flying by among the vegetation, but as soon as it sat down, it became invisible. It took me quite a while to discover the carrier of this light, as it flew away as soon as I approached. Must be a member of the Buprestidae family I guess. Any suggestions?
