American cockroach

Periplaneta americana

Description:

Large cockroach, belly up on concrete driveway, still alive and kicking, but obviously unwell.

Habitat:

Suburban area on tropical upland plateau.

Notes:

Spotted while out walking the dog, who actually saw it first, in deep grass. I moved it to to the driveway to permit acquiring good images. It was minus antennae (possibly chewed off) and covered with ants, some of which remained attached during the move and may be seen in the close-ups. Apparently ant etiquette does not require the meal to be dead before the picnic may begin.
