Brown surf barnacle

Chamaesipho brunnea

Description:

The brown surf barnacle (Chamaesipho brunnea) is usually found intermixed with the sheet barnacle in loose formations. Its lid consists of four parts, separated by one straight line and a wobbly one, as if it is smiling. The sides of the column widen towards where it is attached. It's a very common barnacle species, spotted at Houghton bay, Wellington NZ.
