Description:

This small tree flowers and fruits while still a shrub. Leaves are opposite and compound with 3 leaflets, aromatic when crushed; petiole to 9 cm long. Flowers borne in clusters along the branches, petals 4, dark pink to 7 mm long; fruit a 4-angled capsule which splits open at the top to reveal the black seeds. The surface of the capsule appears rough because of the large oil glands.
