On having a closer look at this I am certain the leaf is distorted around these nodules so I am pretty sure it is a leaf gall of some kind... maybe caused by a wasp or midge.

Argy Bee: most of the leaves were like this.

Then probably not galls or you would probably notice deformation of leaf.

Hi Argy bee: No i do not have any shot of the back side. but no distinctive feature at the back of the leaf.
