Description:

This tree can be very large and may grow to a height of 15 to 30 m (49 to 98 ft) tall or even taller. The bark is arranged in flaky plates and tends to be gray. The needles are 12 to 20 mm (0.45 to 0.8 in) in length.

Habitat:

This tree grows in the boreal forests of Canada, Alaska and dipping down in northern Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, and the US Northeast.

Notes:

This is arguably the northernmost tree that grows in North America.
