Pine Needle Scale

Chionaspis pinifoliae

Description:

Very small, mostly whitish, sedentary insects that hardly resemble insects at all. Large infestations can make it look like the tree is covered in a light snowfall.

Habitat:

These were found on an ornamental pine in an urban residential area. Pine trees in less-than-optimal conditions are more prone to infestation than those in natural habitats.

Notes:

This can be a pest of ornamental pines.
