Description:

Monarch butterfly caterpillar feeding on a swan plant (Gomphocarpus). In mid summer monarchs spend about 2 weeks as a caterpillar, 2 weeks as a chrysallis then live for about 2 months as a butterfly.

Habitat:

Found near primary food source - swan plant (Gomphocarpus) but mature caterpillars can also survive on milkweed or spurge (Euphorbia).
