Black-hooded Parakeet

Nandayus nenday

Description:

Also known as a Nanday Conure or Nanday Parakeet, this pair of foot-long lime green birds landed on my bird feeder, accompanied by loud squawking. They are predominantly lime green with a black head, and azure accent feathers on their breast and tail, and black feathers on their tails also. And they have bright red feathers on their thighs. They are not native to this area and are rarely seen in Boca Raton, FL.

Habitat:

In my backyard along an inland freshwater canal in western Boca Raton, FL.

Notes:

The second bird is on the back of the feeder and is partially obscured.
