Cotinga nattererii
This is said to be the most beautiful bird in Panama. The Blue Cotinga spends its days high in the canopy and extends its wings to make a circular disc that reflects the sunlight attracting a mate from far away. While easy to get in some areas, it took 3 hours by van to the high cloud forests of Cerro Azule, and a couple hours into the hike to find our first and only one. This was immediately after one of the ladies in our group had to endure a bite from a Bullet Ant! Glad I was not her . . .
