Fungus-Eating Ladybird

Illeis galbula

Description:

This little ladybird landed on my arm before flying onto a camelia leaf. Non-native species in New Zealand of Australian origin . About 5mm long with bright yellow with black markings.

Habitat:

Adults and larvae seen feeding on the fungus and black mould on grapefruit tree leaves.

Notes:

There are about 40 ladybird species in New Zealand, more than half of them are native.
