mist flower

Ageratum

Description:

In a meadow full of grasses and wildflowers, the ageratums grow on tall slender stalks, with heart shaped green leaves. The flowers are clusters of small blooms which are shaggy in appearance. They are either purple or white in color, and attract butterflies and bees.

Habitat:

These flowers were growing in a meadow near a creek in rural Kentucky. There are many mature trees nearby; oak, walnut, persimmon, maple, and others. Cultivated fields of corn and soybeans are nearby, as well as a farmhouse and busy road.

Notes:

There are more purple than white ageratums here. Both are visited by many butterflies and other insects.
