Columbian Ground Squirrel

Urocitellus columbianus

Description:

Same family as marmots, chipmunks, prairie dogs these ground squirrels are curious and prolific. Their nest in burrows in the ground and are common in some areas of BC.

Habitat:

Very common in the Ponderosa pine, dry bunchgrass habitat of Kettle River Provincial Park. This sighting is beside the Trans Canada Trail which runs through the park on the old Kettle River railway bed. A great place to walk and look at wildlife.
