Description:

Pearl and black fly with clear, iridescent wings. The underside of the abdomen is yellow. The top of the abdomen is gray with horizontal black stripes. The thorax has a horizontal black stripe across it made up of spots. The eyes are large and red. The eyes of the male touch in the center where females don't.

Habitat:

Rock in backyard

Notes:

"Larvae at least sometimes feed on mammal carcasses. Adults are attracted to mammal dung, also feeding on sugary fluids such as honeydew and sap from sapsucker wounds." - BugGuide
