Description:

Carolina Wild Indigo is a showy native perennial rarely used in gardens. Plants grow 12 to 18 in. tall and wide and produce showy, bright yellow flowers over several weeks in mid spring

Habitat:

Carolina Wild Indigo is an excellent choice for dry, sandy flowers beds, but will also grow in moist soil. This one was growing in a longleaf pine savannah at the Aiken Gopher Tortoise Heritage Preserve near Windsor (Aiken County), SC.

Notes:

This plant is also known as Sandhills Baptista. Carolina Wild Indigo is a larval host plant for the Wild Indigo Dusky Wing and the Frosted Elfin, and the flowers are pollinated by bumble bees.
