Spotting

Description:

A variety of hawk moth larvae. Large olive green to grey body with light green triangular patterns on both sides. Pointy spike at top rear end.

Habitat:

We discovered and rescued this little treasurer on some cement covered in ants at the Rockhampton Kershaw Gardens this morning. It appeared to be strong and vibrant once the ants were carefully removed, although some yellow thick mucis remained attached to the little one's back end. We tried to find some loose soil and vegetation near by. Unfortunately the area was dry, rock hard and covered in ants. We decided to relocate our little one to one of our home gardens with a variety of healthy food source and moist soil. By late afternoon the little larvea successfully took to below ground to pupae??? hopefully. Just wandering what variety of halk moth this is and what is its food source so that we can provide some to ensure the survival of the next generation in our garden. The first photo I took at The Kershaw Gardens after the ants were removed and the last two were taken by my friend Jan in her yard near sweet potato vines.
