Downy woodpecker

Picoides pubescens

Description:

smallest N American woodpecker - generally found in willows and alders at edge of coniferous forests. Closely resembles the hairy woodpecker found in the same range, but has much smaller bill and all white outer tail feathers.

Notes:

spotted both hairy and downy in same group of trees: hopefully properly separated photos after much editing
